Bulls launch their flag football programme
The Bulls academy is proud to announce that it is launching its non-contact flag football programme this Saturday, 19th April at the Bulls training ground at the BCU Pavilion. The flag football section of the academy had to be put on hold for a few months due to the lack of qualified coaching staff available to run it, but with the recent new crop of coaches joining the club our plans are back on track.
“We are looking to introduce flag football as an after school event in several areas of Birmingham and are working closely with teachers and several school sports coordinators to launch it in local school,” Said Dave Cottrell, who is in charge of youth development at the Bulls. “Part of the academy programme is to offer a progression for the new players to take their football to a higher level by joining one of the Bulls flag teams to compete at the national level within the BAFL. This Saturdays is the first of these coaching sessions for the Bulls cadet, junior and youth teams and they are open to anyone who wants to get involved.”
Flag football is not just for the kids; one of the fastest growing areas of the British American Football League (BAFL) is the adult flag league. So far this year 18 teams have joined the newly formed league for the 2008 season with more enrolling each week. Flag football is great fun to play and a good way to keep fit in the process. The 5-a-side teams, the inexpensive equipment required and the non-contact nature of the game make it ideal for a recreational sport played by a bunch of mates on a weekend. The sport is played all over the USA and is catching on here in Europe. If you are interested in setting up a flag football team in your area our you want us to run a session at your school then please get in touch with Dave Cottrell we would like to help.
